PARATY

Paraty é uma pequena vila colonial no litoral sul do Estado do Rio de Janeiro. Com belas praias e uma natureza quase intocada. Preserva mais de 400 anos de história. Foi um dos mais importantes portos do Brasil Colonia, e seu nome já foi sinomimo de 'cachaça'.
Paraty is a small colonial town on the south coast of the State of Rio de Janeiro. With beautiful beaches and almost undisturbed nature it also boasts over 400 years of history. It was one of most important ports of Brazil in the colonial times, and it's name was synonymous with 'cachaça' (sugar cane liquor).
Nos primeiros anos do descobrimento, a trilha aberta pelos índios goianases já era conhecida dos portugueses. Paraty é muito antiga para os padrões brasileiros, a cidade começou a ser povoada 1533. After the discovery of Brazil, the 'Goianases' Indian trail was already known by the Portuguese. Paraty is a very old town, if u consider the Brazilian standard. It started being settled in 1533.

O povoamento do vilarejo iniciou-se a partir de 1600. Em 1640, os indios que habitavam a região foram expulsos, e a cidade passou a desenvolver-se neste local. / The real settlement of the town started around 1600. In 1640 the Indians who used to live here were driven away and the town moved to where it stands now.

Paraty se tornou importante a partir de 1800, como porto para a exportação do ouro das Minas Gerais para Portugal. Durante este período de prosperidade se começou a contrução das casas de 2 pisos, e Paraty se tornou o segundo mais importante porto do Brasil. Foi o chamado 'Ciclo do Ouro'. / Paraty became very important in the 1800's, because the gold found in Minas Gerais was shipped from here to Portugal. During this period of wealth the two story houses began to be built and Paraty became the second most important port of Brazil. This was called the "gold cycle".

O Ciclo do Café foi outro tempo de prosperidade. O café trazido do Vale do Paraiba (Estado do Rio de Janeiro) era enviado de Paraty a Porturgal. / The 'Coffee Cycle', was another of its economic booms! Coffee was brought from the Paraiba Valley, located in the State of Rio de Janeiro, and shipped in Paraty to Portugal.

Em 1888, com a abolição da escravatura, Paraty praticamente caiu no esquecimento. / In 1888 with the abolition of the slavery, Paraty became almost forgotten in time.



A melhor cachaça do Brasil era produzida aqui, por isso Paraty se tornou sinônimo de cachaça. The best 'cachaça' (sugar cane liquor) of Brazil was produced here and the name Paraty became synonymous of this liquor.






Em 1954 foi contruida uma estrada para ligar Paraty ao interior cruzando o Vale do Paraiba, mas somente depois de1075 com aconstrução da rodovia BR-101 é que o Ciclo do Turismo iniciou. / In 1954 a road was opened linking the town to the inland through the Valley of Paraiba, but it was not until 1975 with the opening of the highway BR-101 that Paraty really starts the 'Tourism Cycle'.
Em 1966, Parati é tombada pelo Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico.
Paraty was declared a national monument in 1966.

Hoje a cidade é o segundo ponto turístico do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, e o 17º do país. / Presently Paraty is the second most important tourism spot in the State of Rio de Janeiro, and 17th most important in Brazil.

Paraty oferece uma grande variedade de opções de atividades e lazer. Caminhar pelas ruas empedradas e admirar sua arquitetura colonial cuidadosamente preservada, comprar em suas lojas, visitar seus museus e igrejas e galerias de arte, ou simplesmente provar sua deliciosa comida. / The old town in Paraty offers you a wide variety of things to do and see during your visit. Strolling the streets of the historical center, with it's beautifully preserved colonial architecture, shopping in the numerous art galleries and stores, stepping back in time in the churches and museums or just sampling the exquisite food.

A baía oferece mais de 65 ilhas e inúmeras praias cobertas de vegetação abundante e colorida o ano todo. A temperatura da água é sempre ideal para natação, mergulho ou snorkeling. Você pode explorar a área de várias maneiras, mas a mais comum é o passeio de barcol / In the bay of Paraty you can find over 65 tropical islands and dozens of beaches, all covered with colorful and lush vegetation all year round. The water of the bay is always the right temperature for swimming, diving and snorkeling. There are numerous ways to explore it, the most common is on a five-hour schooner trip.

Belas praias podem ser encontradas muito próximas a Paraty, de carro, bicicleta, ônibus ou barco. / Beautiful beaches can be found a short distance from Paraty by car, bike, bus or boat.
Os Parques Nacionais que circundam a vila oferecem muitas trilhas, fauna selvagem e quedas d´água. / The National Parks that encircle the town are filled with trails, wildlife and waterfalls.



Vários eventos culturais têm Parati como sede. Mas nenhum é mais concorrido e conceituado do que a FLIP - Festa Literária Internacional de Paraty no mês de junho, desde 2003. Escritores brasileiros e do exterior participam de palestras e debates sobre literatura. Este evento, entre outros, atrai muitos visitantes e é uma importante receita para a prefeitura. / Many events are held in Paraty. But, no one is so important as the International Book Fair, which takes place every year in June, since 2003. National and International writers come to the village to participate in conferences and debates about literature. This event, among others bring many visitors to the town and it is an importante source of revenue for the city.
